Some of the key characteristics of a good ChatGPT prompt include the following:

It is important to state also that a ChatGPT prompt does not necessarily have to possess all these attributes at the same time. Nevertheless, they can be included separately or in combination when crafting a prompt for a particular use case.
The best ChatGPT prompts are the ones that possess one or more of these features.
Having examined the attributes of a good ChatGPT prompt, let us now see some examples.
In this example, we will ask ChatGPT to compose a tweet about using recyclable shopping bags.
Prompt: “You are a social media expert with lots of experience. I want you to compose a catchy tweet to advertise a new line of recyclable shopping bags called “ShopiCycle”. The target audience is young women between the ages of 18 and 25.”
The response is certainly impressive, as ChatGPT copiously included emojis and hashtags in the tweet to make it catchy and exciting just as prompted.
Example 2: ChatGPT Prompt for Writing A Blog Post
Here, we will prompt ChatGPT to write a blog post about ocean pollution.
Prompt: “As a seasoned researcher and blogger, write an 800 word blog post about the dangers of ocean pollution. Specifically mention how it is caused, its impact on marine life, and what we humans can do to combat it. Make the tone of the article serious and let it be a wake up call for all stakeholders. Make use of SEO techniques in the article.”
As you can see, ChatGPT did a good job with researching and writing the blog post. In the prompt, we assigned a role to it and also gave it a context, and it produced a satisfactory response.
Example 3: ChatGPT Prompt for Translating Text
In this example, we will use ChatGPT to translate a sentence from English to Spanish.
Prompt:
“Translate the sentence below from English to Spanish:
“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”.
Just to be sure, I translated the same English sentence to Spanish using Google Translate, and I got the same result, meaning ChatGPT’s translations can be relied upon.
Example 4: ChatGPT Prompt for Generating Code
Here, we will ask ChatGPT to write a Python code to find the most frequently occurring word in a list.
Prompt: “You are a skilled Python programmer and instructor. Write a computer program to find the most frequently occurring word inside a list, and explain the code to me like I am 5 years old.”
I ran the code in my Python IDE, and it worked as expected.
Ever since its release, ChatGPT has become a popular tool among developers and analysts because of its ability to write coherent code for different tasks.

Example 5: ChatGPT Prompt for Answering Questions
Here, we will ask ChatGPT 3 separate questions.
As you can see, ChatGPT answered the questions in the format given to it. Note that ChatGPT was trained with data only up to 2021, which means that it cannot give you answers to questions about things that happened after 2021.
Example 6: ChatGPT Prompt for Summarizing Text
Here, we will pass a chunk of text to ChatGPT and ask it to summarize it into 3 sentences. I copied text from Britannica and passed it to ChatGPT along with a prompt.
Text: artificial intelligence (AI), the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems endowed with the intellectual processes characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience. Since the development of the digital computer in the 1940s, it has been demonstrated that computers can be programmed to carry out very complex tasks—such as discovering proofs for mathematical theorems or playing chess—with great proficiency. Still, despite continuing advances in computer processing speed and memory capacity, there are as yet no programs that can match full human flexibility over wider domains or in tasks requiring much everyday knowledge. On the other hand, some programs have attained the performance levels of human experts and professionals in performing certain specific tasks, so that artificial intelligence in this limited sense is found in applications as diverse as medical diagnosis, computer search engines, voice or handwriting recognition, and chatbots.
Prompt: “Summarize the above text for me into just 3 sentences.”
Judging by the response given, we can say that ChatGPT clearly did a good job with the text summarization.
Example 7: ChatGPT Prompt for Writing Prompts
Yes, ChatGPT can be asked to write prompts too. Here is an example.
Prompt: “You are an expert prompt engineer. I want you to write a prompt that I can pass to ChatGPT to help me ask how to calculate difference-in-difference using linear regression in the R programming language.”
It generated a prompt, and sure enough, I ran the prompt to see how good the response it would give me will be.
The response from running the ChatGPT-generated prompt was quite good, which means that ChatGPT can be used to craft prompts if you run out of ideas. However, the quality of the prompt it will give you is dependent on the quality of the prompt you pass to it in the first place.
